  • Overview

    Our Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), under the supervision of a licensed Behavioral Health Professional, provides behavioral health services to incarcerated youth within the facility under the direction of the Behavioral Health Coordinator/Behavioral Health Director. Will also provide behavioral health consultation and training to facility personnel.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in behavioral/social science field from an accredited college or university. (Professional experience, trainings and applicable certifications may be considered in lieu of educational requirements on a case by case basis).

    Experience:

    • Must have coursework and professional experience that indicates knowledge of working with at risk youth, behavioral health interventions, and identification of behavioral health issues, crisis intervention, and behavioral health consultation. 
    • Prefer experience with active youth leadership and/or mentoring through activities and arts.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide behavioral health services under the direction of a licensed Behavioral Health Professional in accordance with the policies and procedures of CCS, the Facility, and in accordance with the ethics and standards of relevant professional organizations (e.g., NCCHC, NASW, APA) and state guidelines regarding scope of services of bachelor’s prepared professionals. 
    2. Provide psycho-social-educational programming and activities for groups and individuals with the goal of improving the social, cognitive, problem-solving, and daily living skills of incarcerated youth.
    3. Triage behavioral health concerns of incarcerated youth and inform appropriate clinical staff of any issue that may require immediate intervention.
    4. Provide consultation services as assigned.
    5. Participate in release continuity of care planning for incarcerated youth who are set to be discharged from the Facility.
    6. Train staff in human behavior and/or mental health issues in accordance with the facility’s training program and as assigned by the Behavioral Health Coordinator/ Behavioral Health Director.
    7. Maintain the confidentiality of incarcerated youth information in accordance with State law, CCS Policy, the Facility policy and the standards of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and the American Correctional Association.
    8. Interrelate and work effectively with incarcerated youth, facility staff and outside support agencies as delegated by Behavioral Health Coordinator/Behavioral Health Director. 
    9. Document all services provided in the incarcerated youth’s health record.
    10. Participate in staff meetings and in-service training programs.
    11. Notify Behavioral Health Coordinator/ Behavioral Health Director of personal need for additional clinical supervision, overall problems in the delivery of clinical services, and/or proposals to improve clinical skills.
    12. Maintain accountability for services provided through timely and accurate recording of activities on the provider record and through participation in the Quality Improvement program.
    13. Comply with employee standards of the Facility. Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a professional working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationships, and timely notification of supervisory personnel of absences from institution.
    14. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
    15. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    16. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    17. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
    18. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
    19. Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.
    20. Perform other duties as assigned.
