  • Overview

    Our Regional Medical Director abides by the applicable standards and requirements of CCRS and the security regulations of the institutions to which assigned. Provides required documentation of services to the Chief Clinical Officer or designee in order to monitor services provided and compliance with contract specific requirements. Assists in arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for extended period of time. Good physical and mental health. Able to work under pressure and able to relate well to patients, security, visitors and co-workers.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (DO). 

    Experience:

    • Experience in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Public Health preferred.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Must obtain and maintain current licensure within the states of practice as required by CCS and accrediting and contracting agency.
    • Must maintain a current DEA number.
    • Must maintain privileges. 
    • Must maintain CME requirements for continued medical practice in each state.

    Responsibilities

    1. Supports standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
    2. Supervises care given by other licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel providing instructions, and direction as needed.
    3. Provides clinical oversight to the facility medical program.
    4. Partners with the Hospital Administrators in activities including but not limited to: continuous quality improvement program, infection control, utilization management, formulary management and deploying clinical initiatives.
    5. Actively participates on the CCS and/or CCRS Continuous Quality Improvement Committee to improve process, structure and outcomes.
    6. Reviews and approves the treatment protocols, clinical policies and procedures, to include infection control and infirmary (if applicable at site) manuals and disease management guidelines, as needed and not to exceed annually.
    7. Partners with the Hospital Administrators and Chief Operating Officer to establish and maintain Chronic Care Clinics that assure compliance with CCRS standards and contracting agency requirements as well as CCS policy/procedures.
    8. Partners with the Hospital Administrators and Chief Operating Officer to monitor pharmacy services including formulary compliance, prescribing patterns and dispensing of medication.
    9. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
    10. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    11. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    12. Provides scheduled direct patient care and telemedicine encounters on average of 20 hours per week.
    13. Adheres to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens before utilizing non-formulary procedures.
    14. Provides emergency treatment when on-site and responds appropriately in urgent or emergency situations.
    15. Consults with medical specialists for advice and expertise in their respective areas.
    16. Provides medical services to inmates as scheduled.
    17. Ensures progress note documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or on approved paper form is in SOAP format, and is problem oriented.
    18. Ensures all documentation is dated, timed and signed.
    19. Ensures all verbal or telephone orders are countersigned within one business day, or on the next business day on-site.
    20. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
    21. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
    22. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
    23. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
    24. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
    25. Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.
    26. Perform other duties as assigned.
