Our Director of Dentistry is responsible to the Executive Vice President and works in coordination with the Program Medical Director, Program Director of Nursing and the Health Services Administrators.



  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry/Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited university


  • General practice residency and/or administrative experience preferred


  • Currently licensed in the state pf practice
  • Must receive security clearance


  1. Develops and reviews dental services policies and procedures to implement a quality dental health care program that is in compliance with contractual requirements, ADA regulations, CDC guidelines, IMPP's and General Orders.
  2. At the request of Executive Vice-President or Health Services Administrator investigates and responds in writing to inmate grievances, Facility inquiries, audits, and Inmate Legal Services.
  3. Ensures all equipment is maintained, repaired and inspected on a regular basis.
  4. Ensures all dental providers adhere to security regulations regarding instrument and needle counts.
  5. Ensures all dental records are current, accurate and legible.
  6. Coordinates annual performance review of all dental providers and forwards to the Executive Vice-President with recommendations.
  7. Promotes cost control through effective supply inventory, staff education, and efficient utilization of supplies and resources.
  8. Approves/disapproves all dental referrals based on patients' condition and history.
  9. Conducts on-site visits with dental staff at each facility at least quarterly.
  10. Makes periodic clinical rounds to all designated areas of responsibility reviewing dental records, medication orders, individualized treatment plans, legibility of recording by prescriber and ensuring regimen of care prescribed is adequate and appropriate.
  11. Is visible, accessible, responsible and acts as the medical liaison to all dental care disciplines
  12. Provides dental health services to the assigned institutions as defined for the staff dentist.
  13. Ensures emergency dental care intervention is available.
  14. Ensure all dental providers are qualified by documented education, training experience, licensure and /or certification to provide dental services.
  15. Participates in institutional committee meetings such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Control, Medical Audit Committee and Quality Assurance.
  16. Monitor's staffing needs, retention, training, and orientation of dental providers.
  17. Ensures dental service staffs executes acceptable dental standards of practice and are compliant with philosophy and objectives of sound dental treatment.
  18. Post Orders, if applicable, per site contract
  19. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
  20. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  21. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  22. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.
